Charming one room schoolhouse--built in 1900, was lovingly restored to its original glory with ample character intact. Plentiful light comes through the Loewen windows with oak fluted casings and trim. Classic pendant lights can be found in both bathroom areas and you'll see that the other pendant lights in the main room were chosen to match the original as closely as possible. Please note the stylish period ceiling tiles, and the solid oak bathroom doors with oak trim and rosettes. The schoolhouse was totally gutted and wiring upgraded when the building was originally purchased. Interesting fact: the plot map shows that the schoolhouse sits halfway in Dexter and halfway in Chelsea! It was used as The Little Friends Preschool Daycare. This lovely schoolhouse and almost acre lot are ready for a multitude of uses. Playground equipment is negotiable. BATVAI. No virtual showings.
A city of about 4,000 located eight miles west of Ann Arbor; Dexter is the unofficial gateway to the area's lakes and metroparks. Dexter’s restaurants and pubs are popular gathering points for those who’ve spent the day engaged in outdoor activity. Founded in 1824, Dexter is another of the county’s villages with an agricultural heritage. Although a few farms remain today, most of Dexter’s residents are professionals working in Dexter, Ann Arbor or the greater Detroit area.
Dexter features a thriving village center with a number of appealing shops, as well as a downtown park with a large gazebo that is a favorite spot after a visit to the Dairy Queen across the street. During the summer months, a variety of events occur downtown, highlighted in August by the much-anticipated Dexter Daze, which draws thousands of people from all over the county.
Dexter’s housing stock is varied, with beautiful examples of Victorian architecture close in, and newer subdivisions around the edges.
